PENADES

This project was commissioned by curators Jana Zielinski & Jiří Macek for Manifesto, an exhibition that took place at the Colloredo-Mansfeld Palace in Prague during the 20th Anniversary of Designblok.

The curators briefed different designers to develop a project that showed somehow our vision and methodology. After a quick research I found out that the Czech Republic has a respected glass industry so I decided to study the properties of this material. My take was to concentrate on the technical attributes rather than the common and widely explored ornamental qualities.

The idea behind this project consisted on a new construction system that join glass panels through ratchets and leather straps – any glue or other type of adhesive is used. This unexpected construction vocabulary with glass resulted in a shelving unit and a coffee table.
