PENADES

Inspired by the cajón flamenco, this piece is rooted in Andalusian musical culture and pays homage to one of its legends, the guitar master Paco de Lucía.

In 1977, flamenco experienced a big revolution. On a trip to Peru, Paco de Lucía discovered the cajón thanks to the percussionist Caitro Soto. Back in Spain, De Lucía added slight changes such as inserting guitar strings attached to the back side of the instrument and this is how the cajon flamenco was born 50 almost years ago.

This percussion element, which already functions as a seating, was the starting point for this project. Small changes have also been introduced – one of the side boards has been removed and the one with the hole has been placed in the center to provide stability and certain character. Made out of Spanish chestnut, it can be used alone as a stool, or adding few of them you can create a bench. It could function as a seat or a side table, vertically or horizontally.

The name of this object refers in Spanish to some sort of touching experience, but in plural, Tientos, is the name of one of the several palos del flamenco.
