I was invited by Joseph Grima and Valentina Ciuffi to make an installation at Alcova during Salone del Mobile 2022, as part of their programme Curated by Alcova.
Inspired by the biomechanics of the human body, this project explores how physiotherapist´s knowledge could be translated to architectural contexts. Tension, loads, effort, stress, balance – these are all principles that make these two disparate disciplines overlap.
Tape! Tape! Tape! is the 3rd iteration of the project and it follows the same construction methodology based on kinesiology tape. Originally designed for Concéntrico – Logroño’s International Architecture Festival back in 2018 and then iterated for the Brompton Design District in London in 2019.
For Alcova, I decided to give a more performative caracter to the project and I spent the whole week improvising furniture life in front of the audience. There is not much more to explain: gaffer tape, plywood sheets and lots of fun!
Note: at the end, bones and muscles are part of one of the most intelligent structures I can think of.
