PENADES

Passamà is a collection of tables designed for Valencian furniture company Teulat, inspired by a familiar element of Mediterranean summers: the curved stainless-steel tubes typically found in swimming pool ladders.

Away from the coast, where access to the sea is not always possible, swimming pools become an important part of summer life. Public or private, they form part of a particular Mediterranean landscape shaped by long hours under the sun. Among the objects that define this environment, the curved tubular swimming pool ladder stands out as an anonymous yet instantly recognisable archetype.

Passamà takes its name from the Valencian word for handrail or railing. Rather than reproducing its form literally, the collection translates its material and manufacturing logic into a family of tables. The same tube diameter and bending radius are used throughout the entire collection, creating a common language across different sizes and typologies.

This reductive logic also informs the way the tables are constructed. Each piece is designed to be fully disassembled, allowing individual components to be repaired or replaced in case of damage or wear rather than requiring the replacement of the entire product. In doing so, the construction system facilitates maintenance and helps maximise the lifespan of each table.

The collection comprises five typologies: rectangular and round dining tables, a round restaurant table, a coffee table and a side table, each available in three colours.

As Jorge Penadés’ first collaboration in the field of industrial design, Passamà introduces a different scale of production to his practice. Developed together with Teulat, the project seeks to balance quality, production efficiency and cost in order to offer a durable product that is accessible to a broader audience. The collaboration also carries a personal significance for Penadés: he comes from a family of Valencian cabinetmakers who worked in furniture production, establishing both a geographical and professional connection between this first experience and his family history.
