PENADES

Stapleless is a series of monomaterial paper lampshades. The project takes the Harinacs stapleless stapler as its starting point and explores the potential of an existing tool beyond its conventional use.

What can AI not make?

In its second iteration, the project adopts a deliberately limited set of means. The monomaterial lampshades are manufactured exclusively by hand, using human energy and a small set of manual tools. No electrically powered tools are involved.

In an increasingly automated world, Stapleless proposes an anti-AI exercise. Rather than rejecting technology per se, it questions the gap between people and the objects they create. At a time when standardisation becomes the norm, the project places human agency back into the design process and celebrates craftsmanship as a source of character and personality.
